Sodium Bicarbonate To Treat Athletes Foot Why Do Aged Samples Of Aldehydes Effervesce (give Off Bubbles Of Gas) When Treated With Sodium Bicarbonate?

Why do aged samples of aldehydes effervesce (give off bubbles of gas) when treated with sodium bicarbonate? - sodium bicarbonate to treat athletes foot

Aldehydes are easily oxidized to carboxylic acids ... which in turn react with NaHCO3-CO2 gases are emitted, for example ...

CH3CHO + [O] ---> CH3COOH
CH3COOH + NaHCO3 ---> H2O + CH3COONa + CO2gas
